Information Processing Re-visited: Reciprocal Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence and Human-Centered Systems

A new open access article has been published, delineating how artificial intelligence enriches human information processing through reciprocal interactions that shape both human‑centred learning systems and AI systems, while critically underscoring the imperative of addressing privacy, ethical, and equity challenges to responsibly harness AI’s full educational impact in dynamic, inclusive, and responsive learning environments.

Understanding human information processing is central to designing and implementing learning environments for supporting learning processes and outcomes. Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) provide opportunities for enhancing the affective, cognitive, and social dimensions of
information processing. The main argument of this article postulates that AI enriches information processing, creating reciprocal interactions that influence both human-centred systems and AI systems, underscoring the interplay between AI and human cognitive frameworks. Yet, addressing privacy, ethical, and equity challenges is crucial for leveraging AI to create dynamic, inclusive, and responsive learning environments. Continued research will be vital for responsibly realising AI’s full educational impact.
